Forgiven by the Truth
by Joseph J. Biernacki
Nothing heals, nothing forgives and nothing is more certain than the truth – immutable, undeniable, indelible.
Are we the children we once were?
Or are they lost?
Erased by time and living’s cost.
Are ours the hearts of innocence?
Or have they changed?
Confused by will, been rearranged.
Are these the eyes that eager gazed?
Or have they closed?
Ashamed of secrets undisclosed.
Though tempered by experience,
And errors’ pains,
Inside the child, though it wanes.
No longer innocence of heart,
His will corrects
Memories’ thorny retrospects.
Now eyes that see and understand,
Are opened wide;
There’s nothing left inside to hide.
Ours are the hearts of sober trust,
Not eyes of youth,
Children, forgiven by the truth.
