Where Mimosas Bloom
by Joseph J. Biernacki
On warm, humid ‘eves where mimosas bloomed, the sounds and sights of those twilight nights filled the air. With children at play, chasing fireflies, the folks sat still in hushed repose.
Where mimosas bloom
In summer’s heat:
Night crickets croon
A creaky tune,
Wet bullfrogs croak
A swampy swoon,
Fast spiders’ feet
Weave like a loom,
And fireflies fleet
In darkness zoom,
In summer’s heat,
Where mimosas bloom.
